Sometimes from tragedy, wonderful things can happen when a community comes together. This is called a legacy.
In 2005 Amy Gillett, talented cyclist and athlete was tragically killed while cycling in Germany with the Australian women’s cycling team.
Amy’s husband, Simon Gillett, together with Amy’s parents Mary and Denis and friends, concerned at the state of safety on Australian roads, started the Amy Gillet Foundation in January 2006.
The foundation is now the leading bike rider safety organization in Australia and strives to educate, reducing death and injury on our roads. But to achieve and maintain this- funds are needed!
Wiggle Amy’s Gran Fondo is an incredible event held in held in memory of Amy Gillett and conducted by the Amy Gillett Foundation. Set on the magnificent Great Ocean Road, it caters for all abilities and is a community event not to be missed. An opportunity is here for people to come together in a sport they love while supporting a brilliant foundation and honoring one of our own.
In support of this and our fellow riders, Crank and Grind have put our heads together and created a training schedule leading up to the event. 8 weeks of dedicated Indoor Cycling Sessions, bike strength sessions, and yoga sessions. We will keep you updated in our fun online social environment with our event Facebook page.
Our team of dedicated sports coaches and trainers will guide you through in our state of the art Stages Cycling theatre, your progress is tracked and reported in a seamless tech system used by professional athletes.
There is so much more as we roll out some great offers and support tools- we believe it is a wonderful opportunity to join together in a fun way with a common goal and to show what Geelong people are really about! Let’s do it for Amy.
